Synopsis

Marblehead Morning looks back at the careers of singer songwriters Mason Daring and Jeanie Stahl and their half century journey as both a New England Folk duo and as independent artists.

The centerpiece of the film features nine studio songs performed live at Q Division in Cambridge Massachusetts with five of the area’s top musicians.  Jeanie and Mason’s story is told through these studio sessions, sold out live concerts, behind the scenes interviews and vintage photos and videos.  Daring and Stahl are key figures in the rich folk tradition of New England with roots going back to the legendary Club 47, a coffeehouse in Cambridge, Mass that became Club Passim – the epicenter of the ’60s folk renaissance.

Beyond their respective achievements, Marblehead Morning is also a story of friendship, family, creativity, aging and the power of music to entertain, inspire and connect.

In addition to recording four albums with Jeanie, Mason produced dozens of albums for his own label, Daring Records, and has composed music for over 75 films, including 17 for director John Sayles, as well as countless television series, mini series, and specials.

Jeanie has recorded four solo albums, contributed to Mason’s soundtracks, and partnered with her husband, John Jacobsen, in shaping the development of museums and IMAX theaters worldwide.  She also Co-Executive Produced an Academy Award-nominated IMAX Film.
